Happily visualizing the trek and as always impressed with your tenacity. Not sure what’s going on with my mind (given my delightful hours spent having a root canal yesterday) but thought - why not have an attachment (removable attachment) the business end of an old school metal rake go on Daisy’s rear fender to establish some drag when going downhill on gravel? I’m sure it’s an idiotic idea but it wouldn’t be the first Rube Goldberg brainstorm I’ve had!
Downhill isn’t the problem, it’s the up. But your drag brake idea is a good one, I once saw a bike tourist dragging a branch behind his bike on a long descent in the Washington Cascades. It kept him from having to overuse and overheat his brakes.
My cousin in Alabama, along with her husband, rode their bikes all over Hoover. Jimmy had some health issues and had to give up his bike. My cousin bought him a three wheeler so he could get some exercise and get back to riding the bike. They had it converted to an electric bike like Daisy but without the solar panels. Jimmy is able to keep up with her now.
Here we have had two deaths from folks on high speed electric bikes. Just recently. City needs these recognized as motorcycles. With registration and liscence plates. One was weaving in and out of tragic and useing a bike lane facing oncoming traffic. Stupidity is what it is.
Kent. Our weather days forcast for next six days is rain. And chill with a few sun breaks But after that it’s Thursday 78,fri 82, sat. 88. And Sunday ninety. Today a guy at the store wanted to sell an ancient Schwin five speed But it seemed heavy. Then he said he has a peugot touring bike and I said if you want to sell that drop your name and number into my mail box. That is a bike I’m used to. Maybe ify. Maybe stolen long ago. Who knows. But a peugot for 50 is a great deal. .
What worries me now is that most of the two-wheeled vehicles I see now are powered by electric motors, are very fast (I almost got run over by an electric scooter today), and the rider isn’t using any muscle power at all. In other words, bicycles (and scooters) seem to be turning into mopeds. Of course, my complaints could be dismissed as the ravings of a grumpy old man who’s not willing to embrace this glorious future.
Hadn't clocked World Bike Day (everyone has a bike around here and >20% of trips in our - nearby - state capital of Mainz are done on bikes, either short-term hire - run by the city - or owned, so it's a "Yawn" moment and not newsworthy.) Something new I discovered from a friend (Lufthansa captain, lives a frugal life, no car, goes to work on an electric scooter - to the tram station - and rides his e-bike 500km to Bavaria/Austria and explores the high country on vacation) an app from the Deutsche Bahn that logs your mileage in the background and lets you trade miles for discounts in various places (200km for free art museum entrance, 50km for a 10% discount at cafes, x miles bike for y miles on the train etc). Used it for the first time yesterday on a 91km ride a and it turned out that by the end, folk had ridden over 250k (in all of Germany) and I was 250th in the ranking. Really cool idea - get peopleoff cars and onto bikes and if you haven't got a car, go by rail...

Next project: fitting tank tracks to Daisy.
Did they really need to build that welcome sign quite so large?
That welcome sign is the one you see if you come into town from the south. The others are smaller.
Hm, sounds like a Cannuckist attitude: a big welcome to southerners, not so big for the northerners!

So cute, she is!😊

Nothing better than one's feet, for walking or pedaling, to get one from place to place.
Maybe a winch in front of Daisy to pull you up tough places, like some 4x4s. 🤪🤪
