I suppose the same would go for ridiculously large vehicles like soccer mom tanks and oversized pick-up. Had a suburban pass me today at over 50mph with a clear lane to the left and they still nearly clipped me. Guess assholes aren't allowed to cross the centerline.

Are you sure your friend David isn’t a little bit of an asshole?

I think we all have at least bit of an asshole in us, but it seems to be at quite low levels in David's case!

Another data point: my ex-wife drives one.

This amused me greatly! There's data to back up your gut feeling. A now-deleted article on Treehugger, where I was a former editor, was titled, "New Finnish study confirms that BMW and Audi owners drive like idiots." Personality traits of drivers were analyzed and researchers found that "the answers were unambiguous: self-centred men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes." ;)

What’s the difference between a porcupine and a person who drives a BMW? In a BMW, the pricks are on the inside.

I've known one BMW driver or wannabe BMW driver who wasn't an asshole. The exception that proves the rule. I've driven them and don't find them particularly exciting or well built, they require more maintenance than Japanese vehicles. I used to drive Mustangs, which are often driven by assholes, then a mini Cooper turbo, then an Acura, and now a Subaru. They were all fast, but they all had mirrors so I could check for bicycles before I made a turn.
