This was so much fun to read, Kent. We adopted a bunny from an abusive situation and had to name her Midnight, the Biker Bunny from Hell because she terrorized are four cats. The dog didn't give a dang as he was already intimidated by the cats. He was probably enjoying the schedenfreud.

Thanks for not sharing any pictures of rats!

My big moment of the day was plucking and eating my first wild blackberry of the year in San Francisco!

Rats! My late cat, Eddie, would regularly bring in live rodents and then lose interest in them. 🫪 That happened with a baby rat. The critter made itself at home behind my dryer, and I never actually saw it. However, when it got thirsty, it chewed a hole thru the filler hose of the washer, and the place flooded when I tried to do laundry. When my landlady helped me move the dryer, I discovered it had also chewed up my straw broom to make a cozy nest. 😝 I like squirrels much better…

"Some folks say that squirrels are just rats with fuzzier tails, but our squirrels are smart enough to leave the bikes alone."

See, we're not looking for PhD-level stuff here, just some peaceful 'live and let live' without the chewing up of bicycles. Glad you have attracted a thoughtful tribe of squirrels!

Our back yard feeder experiment went off the rails a couple of years ago, with birds escalating to squirrels and then escalating to rats. Simultaneously, as if there wasn't enough drama, it took one very industrious squirrel eighteen months to defeat the "squirrel-proof" feeder, so I shut down the whole thing.

And then we ended up with some indoor cats to care for, so now I fling just a bit of birdseed out into the front yard most mornings so the cats can watch their version of "Wild Kingdom". No rats, thankfully, and though the squirrels are quick and greedy, they do co-exist with the sparrows and mourning doves and others who show up looking for a snack. So far, it's a win-win-win.

Thinking of Peter rabbit. Rabbits might be problematic to gardeners.

Baby bunnies and goslings. Which get more carrots?

The bunnies maybe trying to get more carrots with the bigger family. I caught a rabbit in my garden and all I had done was tilled it up. He was in there but couldn't find the section of fence he came in on. I just left him alone and when I went out later, he was gone. I did find the area, I think, he came in and did some repairs. Just raising tomato's and pepper's this year but I don't need help with the harvest.
