Idem ditto here. How strange: we're both in the midst of downsizing.
My own project comes from being utterly fed up looking at stuff "I thought I might need one day", plus the prospect of a move to a smaller house in the next year or so. There is a real sense of relief when you see space opening up at home. No one wants to live in an empty warehouse, but clutter can get depressing. I have set up an old IKEA shelf at the end of the driveway, and put flower pots and Christmas and Halloween decorations on it, with a note: "take what you want, €1 per item: put it in the post box." And people do!
It's the weight of LPs that is their undoing. I still have a working turntable (it needed a new drive band, so is that your problem, perhaps?) but threw my father's old one away. A music fan I know had a sharp intake of breath when he heard that!
We do go through waves of ownership, don't we ... only to come to a time when what we own actually owns us. Getting rid of stuff as we go is a lot easier and more practical than hoarding everything until we die and leave a houseful of stuff for some poor soul to shovel it out. Tally-ho!
Lost my vinyl records in flood in garage in hurricane Ian. Still have two turntables, one from the early seventies and one more recent in its unopened box.
I sold a bunch of vinyl a couple of years ago at a garage sale and still have a stack upstairs. Unfortunately I've never been one to take good care of them, so they have scuffs and scratches. I mostly find cool songs on YouTube music to listen to.
I think it's going to be tempting to buy more typewriters with the income from the sale of the typewriters, though!
"I really have way too many typewriters!"
WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE REAL KENT?!?!?
So it’s a matter of making room for more stuff.
Exactly!

If you sell a few, then you can buy a few more!
Exactly!

My early seventies turntable is an Acoustic Research AR XA-91.

Not only is it your "right" move. You get to have fun!
I have boxes of vinyl records in the basement.
I commend this. Not to be morbid, but too many people hang on their stuff until it’s too late.
I just loaded out 30 boxes of books from a house. The couple were downsizing into a nursing home and they had to get everything out of their home.
It was a really sad situation. Everybody should pare down their stuff starting around age 50 or 60.
Agreed! I’ve been working on paring down for a while now—I don’t want to leave a lot of stuff for my (only) son to have to deal with.
Too many typewriters!? 🤯
I think 50 is too many.
I would have to agree. 😉
